The Fundación Gregorio Prieto was established in 1968 in Cueva de Medrano, in accordance with the painter’s wishes to donate his artwork. The museum is housed in a typical 17th Century house of La Mancha, which was appropriately restored to accommodate the art collection. Such collection includes over 3,000 works, the majority of which are by Gregorio Prieto, but the Museum also houses other works by other 20th Century painters, such as Picasso, Dpissis, Chirico, Vázquez Díaz, Bacon, etc. It also houses a collection of original drawings by Federico García Lorca and Rafael Alberti, and collections of polychrome religious wooden carvings, from several centuries.

A walk through the museum’s halls allows visitors to contemplate the evolution of Gregorio Prieto’s work, from its Impressionist phase to Surrealism, passing through its Greek and Roman stage or his later work, in which the surrealist and metaphysical photographs that are so characteristic of this movement stand out.
